Me and my polarizer…we [now] go everywhere together!

It’s been a while since I’ve done a photography post. And since they say there’s no time like the present, I might as well do one now.

Back in December, one of my friends gave me a gift certificate to the ShutterBug for my birthday. I’d been planning on what I’d spend the money on, and when I finally remembered the card WHILE I was at the store, I ended up getting a tripod (yay!!!) and a polarizing lens.

While I didn’t necessarily NEED the lens as much as I needed the tripod, I definitely wanted it. I lusted after the non-Photoshopped blue skies I saw in so many gorgeous photographs (lots of weddings and portraits). And seeing that my hometown is generally overcast, I thought this would be an excellent addition to spruce up my photos.

A few weeks later, Portland is having almost unseasonably good weather! The sun is shining…it’s getting in the mid-60s…and the sky is a fabulous baby blue.

Time to try out the polarizer!

Not really polarizer-ish, but I like the stone.

Across the street, there’s an adorable butterfly garden with cool stones and landscaping, along with cherry trees that are just now in full bloom. They’re GORGEOUS.

The polarizer definitely took the sky’s blue to a more vivid tone, and I’m quite pleased with the photos.

Since my lens is a circular polarizer, it can actually be turned for different effects. While I didn’t have a chance to experiment with that portion yet, I’m sure I will sometime soon. I’m particularly interested in seeing how it can remove the glare from glass and windows. Yippee!
