Haaaaappy Ash Wednesday

My non-Catholic friend Jessica and me after both of us went to an Ash Wednesday mass back in 2005. She'd never been to an Ash Wednesday mass, so she tagged along. I went just 'cuz.

I grew up Catholic.

My family definitely still is.

The fact that I live in such close proximity to them (*coughinthesamehousecough*) means that I’m now under a sort of religious martial law. Well, I suppose that’s not accurate, either. I’m never forced to go to church, but for some reason, my mom was really adamant about me observing Ash Wednesday and Fridays during Lent as fasting and no-meat days.

Well, okay.

I was actually very much determined to not follow through on this, and to show my clear rebellion, but as luck and irony would have it, I was not hungry between meals. And, seeing as I missed the delicious pancake meal my mom fixed, headed out to a happy hour with one of my friends, the most appetizing thing on the menu happened to be a VEGETARIAN black bean burger. My plan was clearly foiled!

Anyhoozles, happy Ash Wednesday to you! And may your Fridays be meatless, too. 🙂
