FOTC Season Two: Lukewarm beginning?

I know I’m like lots of other fangirls who were counting the days down to the Flight of the Conchords season premiere. Last season, we laughed, we cried, we danced it out! It was a season of joy and hilarity and genius!

Clearly, season two has a lot to live up to.

But as I was watching the premiere this morning (and you can watch the entire episode above), I couldn’t help but feel like it was lackluster. Which made me want to smack myself. Truly, though, Murray had the main song, which was slightly irritating because, although I love the Leggy Blonde song, I don’t think that his singing was good/appropriate/funny. It was also disheartening because it was the first episode. Granted, the boys get a song during the credits…something about “angels doing it,” and maybe I wasn’t listening close enough but I didn’t understand where it came from.

Overall, in my opinion, the episode had one or two laugh-out-loud moments, so it was sort of a let-down for me. However, I’m trying to keep in mind that I had a similar sentiment toward season one at the beginning, too, so maybe it just needs to warm up.

What do you think?

  1. I didn’t really like the Murray song in the beginning but I had quite a few moments where I laughed out loud…but what’s new? The toothpaste jingle and costumes were pretty out of control – weaving as a gender-specific activity came out of left field!

Favorite line: “The name ‘Dave’ means ‘deal’ in Latino.”

  2. I like their show, and I liked the first episode of their new season but I typically skip over their songs in the middle. Murray is probably my favorite character as well so I dug it.
